Saturday December 6th,
Me and Tony had dinner at Hyde Park Steak House
Hyde Park is at the Hilton Inn Resort at Ocean Walk Shoppes
We sat outside and enjoyed the band playing Christmas Carols at the bandshell.
We started off with a few Pomegranate Margaritas
Recomend the Shrimp Cocktail
Tony had the Wahoo Oscar – looks excellent
I had the filet – I always have the filet
We loved the location.
This restaurant was a bit pricey.
The food was excellent.
Would definitely go again for a special occasion.

So we decide to celebrate our anniversary at Hyde Park tonight, what a mistake. Let’s start with the good, the lead waiter was well trained and friendly, the steaks were cooked to perfection, the ambience was nice. Now the reality. This place is way overpriced for the quality of the experience. We ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer, the shrimp were rubbery, tasted fine, but expensive and nothing special, tartar sauce was bland and flavorless. The bread that came to the table was a pretzel roll, tasted fine but not crusty, too soggy and soft. We split a salad, no complaints. Then out come the steaks, looked great, cooked to perfection, but no seasoning, flavorless and cold. I’m paying over $40 for a steak and I gotta reach for the salt shaker? Really? The mushroom side dish, bland as well, the Brussel sprouts were good, not great. They gave us a desert on them to celebrate our anniversary, very nice gesture, they don’t even ask us if we want coffee, so we have to ask for the cappuccinos, and the coffee comes out cold 10 minutes after we order it.
So now let’s address the service, slow as molasses, no wonder the steaks and coffee came out cold. We had a two waiter team, neither paid attention to us in a timely fashion. Everything took what seemed like forever! How disappointing, but Wait, there’s more. So the bill comes, I throw down the AMEX, leave a generous tip, get up and wait for the valet to get our car. The waiter runs out to tell me they rang the wrong bill, similar price point, but wrong and if I can come take care of it. It turned out to be a difference of 20%, no big deal really, but you would think the manager would be apologetic, or even take care of the difference since it was his mistake or offer us a free appetizer or desert next time? Nothing, here’s your real bill, sign here please!, something like that happens at Ruth’s Chris, Capital Grille or even Flemings, and the manager makes sure he figures out how to take care of the inconvenience, they handled that so poorly, that’s all on corporates poor training.
Bottom line, this is an overpriced restaurant with just ok food, and friendly but poor service, don’t waste your hard earned money here, they just don’t get it, there are plenty of good quality steakhouses at much better price points in Daytona. We own a condo in Daytona, when we’re here, we tend to go out to eat, we are essentially locals that will not visit again,. I know they probably don’t care, how sad is that, since they cater to the tourists more, but don’t discount the locals. This is supposedly fine dining, but I had a better experience at the local hole in the wall shorts and t-shirt joint for lunch at a tenth of the price, what does that tell you?
